About The Bench Test
The Bench Test covers home and kitchen gadgets under $50 — the category where a bad purchase is cheap enough to shrug off, but common enough that most people end up buying the wrong thing anyway. Our job is to shorten that decision: a clear verdict, the real price, and the pros and cons that actually matter, instead of a wall of spec-sheet copy.
How a product gets covered
Every product we write up is a real, currently-listed item pulled from an actual retail listing — never invented. Each one is scored against its category (price, rating, review volume, and fit for the stated niche) before it's written up, and every write-up goes through a human review pass before it's published. We link back to the real listing on every review so you can check current pricing and availability yourself before buying — we don't control that price, and it can change after we publish.
How we make money
Some links on this site are affiliate links (see our affiliate disclosure). If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commission never determines which products we cover or how we score them — the scoring process runs the same way whether a product has an affiliate program attached or not.
Who runs it
The Bench Test is an independent, small-operation review site. We're not a large editorial staff with a physical test lab — our process is research and evaluation against real listing data, not hands-on lab testing, and we'd rather say that plainly than imply otherwise. If you have questions about how a specific verdict was reached, reach out.
